Study in Magdeburg
Why Magdeburg is a good place to study. (Source Spiegel Online: Discover university towns)
Optimal Supervision Ratio
The main reason many students choose to study at the Engineering Campus is the excellent supervision ratio. Currently, around 70 professors and more than 200 academic staff support students in their teaching (as of 16th October 2024). This ensures that students don’t get lost in large lecture halls and receive individual guidance when working on their thesis projects.
Renowned Research Team
Our professors are internationally well-connected and highly respected in their fields. As part of the institute's colloquia, leading researchers from around the world are regularly invited to give lectures.
Early Integration into Teaching and Research
During their studies, students have the opportunity to work as research assistants, immersing themselves in various research areas while also earning extra income.
Optimal City Size: Not Too Big, Not Too Small
The state capital of Saxony-Anhalt, with its 240,000 inhabitants, is large enough to offer a vibrant atmosphere but not so anonymous that you get lost. With 19,000 students, the city has a lively and active student scene.
Living in Magdeburg
Apartments in renovated historic buildings or rooms in student dormitories are available at affordable prices close to the campus. With a bicycle or the low-cost semester ticket, you can also travel quickly and flexibly around the entire city. The excellent transport infrastructure – whether by bike, bus, or tram – ensures that all routes are short, and destinations are easily accessible.
For those who enjoy travelling further afield, Magdeburg also offers an ideal location: The Halle/Leipzig airport as well as airports in Berlin and Hanover are all reachable in less than 1.5 hours.
Active student scene
Cafés and pubs, concerts and theatre, exciting exhibitions and galleries – whether in former industrial sites, historic fortress walls, or open-air by the Elbe – after lectures, there are numerous opportunities to meet friends and enjoy your free time. Boredom is a foreign concept for students in Magdeburg: A wide range of student initiatives, cultural institutions, sport clubs, leisure parks, cinemas, museums, and alternative venues offer constantly new experiences.
